Impact Day FAQs

  • Impact Day is ACHIEVEability’s signature event — both a fundraiser and a day of service — that brings our community together to make a tangible difference in West Philadelphia. On Impact Day, hundreds of volunteers support ACHIEVEability families, residents, and small business owners through hands-on projects such as home beautification, community cleanups, and neighborhood improvement projects across West Philadelphia.

  • Impact Day runs from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at ACHIEVEability (5901 Market Street). The day-of schedule is as follows:

    8:30 - 9:30 AM | Check-in & light breakfast
    9:30 - 10:00 AM | Kickoff Program
    10:00 AM - 1:30 PM | Volunteer Projects
    1:30 - 3:00 PM | Lunch & Clean-Up

We ask that volunteers plan to stay for the full project timeframe. If your team finishes early, you’ll have the opportunity to support another project to ensure we complete as much work as possible across the neighborhood.

All volunteers will receive an Impact Day t-shirt, and boxed lunches will be provided.

For help or questions, please reach out development@achieve-ability.org.

  • Volunteers can sign up to help out on Impact Day by filling out the volunteer registration form. When filling out the form, volunteers can select their top 3 project choices. While project assignments are not guaranteed, we’ll do our utmost to match you with a volunteer project of your choosing.

    Projects include:

    • Block Beautification (outdoor)
Help sweep, weed, and tidy neighborhood blocks to keep our community beautiful.

    • Porches That Pop (outdoor)
Refresh neighbors’ porches with painting, place new mailboxes, and arranging planters.

    • Garden (outdoor)
Kick off the growing season by weeding, planting, and caring for neighborhood green spaces.

    • Park Cleanup & Maintenance (outdoor)
Help care for Carroll Park and Cobbs Creek with park cleanup and light maintenance.

    • Food Distribution (outdoor)
Help organize and distribute food and shelf-stable goods to neighbors in the community.

    • Tree Tending (outdoor)
Support tree care along the 60th Street corridor to help nurture our neighborhood canopy.

    • Creative Projects (indoor)
Create wreaths, hanging planters, and Mother’s Day cards to brighten community spaces.

  • Everyone is invited to volunteer! Individuals, community groups, and corporate teams are all welcome. Projects are designed for all skill levels — everyone can contribute!

  • Yes, Impact Day will take place rain or shine on Friday, April 24th. In the event of severe weather, a cancellation notice will be sent out to volunteers prior to the event.

  • Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing that is breathable and easy to move in, along with closed-toe shoes such as sneakers. Many projects involve outdoor work, painting, gardening, or general cleanup, so we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty or stained.

We also recommend checking the weather forecast and dressing accordingly.

  • Companies can participate by sponsoring Impact Day and organizing employee volunteer teams. It’s a great opportunity to engage staff in a hands-on day of service while supporting ACHIEVEability’s work in West Philadelphia.

To learn more about sponsorship opportunities and corporate volunteer teams, please contact development@achieve-ability.org.

  • Because several streets around the event area will be closed for Impact Day, we strongly encourage volunteers to take public transportation if possible. ACHIEVEability is located right next to the 60th Street stop on SEPTA’s Market–Frankford Line, making the event easy to access.

For those driving, off-site parking lots will be available. Parking details will be shared with volunteers prior to the event.

Please allow extra time for travel and parking when planning your arrival.

  • Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate in Impact Day. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a signed parental or guardian waiver in order to participate.

Young children are welcome but must be supervised by a parent or guardian throughout the event.

  • You can still make a meaningful impact by making a donation to support Impact Day and ACHIEVEability’s work across West Philadelphia. Your gift helps fund the projects, supplies, and programs that continue long after the day of service ends.

You can also support the event by sharing Impact Day with your friends, family, and professional networks and encouraging others to volunteer or get involved.
